The Vietnamese government has ambitious plans to establish a university of technology in Hanoi with Russia’s sponsorship. Professional Russian translation and interpretation services played an active role in the negotiations that led to the finalization of an agreement between the two sides. The Vietnamese would have struggled to communicate their strategy and expectations with the Russians if it were not for Russian translation services. As a result, the Russians would probably not have agreed to invest in this project. Initially, a Russian training institute will be founded and then the name of the organization will be changed to the Vietnamese Russian University of Technology.
In addition to providing textbooks and the curricula, the Russians will also be in charge of delivering courses in the Russian language. Vietnamese students who have no knowledge of the Russian language may find translated versions of textbooks beneficial. The official contract for this project will be signed soon in Moscow when Vietnam’s prime minister is scheduled to visit Russia. It is expected that the parties will have a copy of the agreement in their native tongue. Recently Vietnam has participated in similar projects with other countries such as France and Germany. In the coming years they are hoping to gain the sponsorship of the United States as well as Japan.
