Sam Jameson used to work for the Los Angeles Times as a foreign correspondent. He resided in Japan and his knowledge of the Japanese language, culture, and history was unmatched. He knew the language so well that he often corrected translations done by professional Japanese translators. He lived in Japan for several decades, writing thousands of articles about Japan as well as other Asian countries. While living in Japan he established close ties with the Japanese prime ministers and foreign diplomats.
