Dr. Azartash Azarnoush, an expert in the Arabic language, has called on teamwork for a new and improved Farsi translation of the Holy Quran. He believes that the holy book should be translated into Persian as well as other languages. He does not consider the existing translations a true reflection of the original text. Although 850 translations of the Holy Quran have been put together by translators who focus on professional Persian translation, Azarnoush believes there is still room for improvements. He wants to produce the best translation of the text. His vision has been inspired by European projects that aim to translate religious texts into several languages using state-of-the-art tools. He has studied this system and wants to use it in this new project. He is fond of the system they use to find the exact equivalent of each source word in the target language. His goal is to integrate European tools into the new translations, enhancing the quality of the Farsi translation.
According to Azarnoush the lack of the Iranian translators’ understanding of Islamic stories has contributed to their inability to convey Quranic words into Persian. He emphasizes that better translations can be prepared if Iranian translators have a deeper understanding of etymology.
